One Free Hour of Time

Daylight Saving Time (yes, this is the correct technical name)

A free hour of time.  Invented by Benjamin Franklin in 1784 but not used until WW1.  We gain an hour on Sunday November 6th.  Technically at 2am Sunday we should all move our clocks back one hour to 1am.  The gain – one hour.

As a business owner, what is the most valuable thing you could spend your “free” hour on?  I’m not saying this is the 1am – 2am hour you will be repeating, but an hour of your choice.  Do you know what the most important thing in your business is for you to spend time on?  Most business owners struggle to answer this question.

Try this – You have just been notified that you have won the trip of your dreams but you have ONE HOUR to address your business issues before you leave for the trip where you will have no means to contact anyone about your business until you get back.  Don’t worry about the trip – everything has been taken care of including clearing your schedule and packing your bags.  Now what would you do?

Or….if your dream is to sell your business, think about someone walking up to you with the exact amount you want for your business in hand but requires you to spend ONE HOUR more to make your business “better” before they will close the deal.  What would you do for that hour?

What did you come up with?  How will you spend your “free” hour to improve your business?  Let me know by using the Comments below.

Sweet dreams!

  1. Hmmm, Is there a tax advantage to using that hour after April 15?

  2. What a unique way of looking at this. It’s amazing hour much business “soul searching” that can be accomplished in an hour. I love the picture!

  3. I love the concept. I always said that if someone offerred me a free trip to Hawaii, that I could be ready in 10 minutes. But, when I had a full-time job, I would have gone to my amazing admin person, gave them the password to all my notes and told them to handle anything that comes up. In truth, she did that for me everyday. I would have smiled and thanked her for her faithfulness and good judgement and moved toward the destination!
